Programme description You can choose between a variety of research areas, and you can work experimentally or with theoretical problems on a high level. The Master's Degree programme in physics gives you the opportunity to specialize in most of the fields within the discipline. These include:
  • Subatomic physics: Nuclear physics and particle physics, including applications in astrophysics.
  • Theoretical physics: Theory is related to subatomic physics, cosmology and quantum phenomena for large systems.
  • Space physics and atmospheric physics: observations made by satellites and rockets as well as ozone monitoring form the basis for research in this field.
  • Biophysics and medical physics: Physics is applied to problems related to biology and medicine.
  • Condensed matter physics: A research area with many subfields, including superconductivity, statistical mechanics and physical electronics.
  • Computational physics: You will learn to solve complicated problems in physics and chemistry through computer simulations.
  • Physics teaching: In this field you specialize in teaching physics, and you will learn about the special qualities of physics as a discipline and the role of physics in society.

The course of study includes the writing of a Master's thesis, which will be conducted in cooperation with one of our research groups. We offer you the opportunity to complete your Master's thesis at one of the research establishments in the Oslo area as well as other chosen facilities.
