Programme duration fulltime two years
Programme description The Master of International Education and Development has a specialisation within International Education and Development. The focus is Education and Development in the South, with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS. This is a two-year full-time programme. The target groups for the project/programme are people with at least two year experience working within education, media, health, aid, NGOs or public administration. The aim of the programme is to build capacity among staff in public and private sector and develop the attitudes, skills and competencies of students in both the North and the South in the field of international education, development, gender, and HIV/AIDS. These themes address key issues related to the MDG's and poverty reduction strategies. The programme will be directly related to the practical field from which the students already have experience. This project with its Master's courses is offered in collaboration with Ahfad University for Women in Khartoum, Sudan and University of Zambia, Zambia. Students will be enrolled from all the three countries. First semester will take place in Norway and the second semester in Zambia and Sudan. In the second year of the programme students are expected to conduct field work (usually) in the South and write their Master Thesis. Scholarships are available. Completed studies qualify for a Master of International Education and Development. The Master's programme and its specialisation focuses on education, gender and HIV/AIDS, aspects that have a significant impact on the well-being of those living in the countries in the South. The fact to be recognized is that the HIV/AIDS pandemic by no means is under control, and the intervention programmes in the various countries have had only limited success. These issues will be addressed and the teaching will be accompanied by recent research on the relationship between culture, context, gender disparity and HIV/AIDS. The programme will critically explore the "one-size-fits-all" interventions in the field, and discuss alternative ways of combating the pandemic, based on qualitative research completed by selected educators from the relevant countries.
