Programme description The MPhil programme in English Language and Linguistics is admitting students every second year. The programme consists of a combination of courses comprising a total of 60 ECTS credits, and a Master's thesis of 60 credits. One academic year is 60 credits. Courses should be completed within the first year of the MPhil programme, and the second year should be fully devoted to the master's thesis. The courses are selected from the regular courses offered to Norwegian Master's students at the Department of Modern Foreign Languages. The range of courses includes issues such as modern English grammar and syntax, first and second language acquisition and translation theories. In the summer period between the first and second years the candidates are given the opportunity to return to their home countries to do fieldwork if this is necessary for the completion of their theses.

Formal prerequisites Academic requirements: BA in English, BA in Linguistics or equivalent, with a sufficient background of in topics related to English language or linguistics. Only candidates with a minimum of three courses within English Language and Linguistics will be considered for acceptance. ; English requirements: International applicants should document either a TOEFL test with a mimum paper score of 550 (230 computer based test) or better, or an IELTS test score of minimum 6.0 or better.
