Programme description Industrial Ecology is a modern and systems oriented approach towards analysing and solving environmental problems. Its focus is on how energy and materials flow through society by way of the production, utilization and disposal of various products, applying the metaphor of ecology to analyze the industrial systems involved. Based on an understanding of the connection between nature, production and consumption, it develops strategies and tools to reduce emissions and resource use. Its particular strength is the usefulness of various environmental systems analysis methods for the examination and design of technologies, organisation and policy, contributing to sustainable development at different levels of production and consumption systems. Industrial Ecology is relevant to both industrialized and rapidly industrializing countries. ; With its study program in Industrial Ecology, NTNU has had a regular degree programme in Industrial Ecology since 1998. NTNU is well recognized internationally as a leader in teaching this subject, with analysis of real industrial cases and interdisciplinary problem solving as central elements. The education is adapted to the different professional needs of individuals working in the areas of industrial production, technology development, consulting, policy analysis, corporate management, and research, through different programme specializations.; Students at NTNU's MSc in Industrial Ecology specialize in: - Environmental Systems Analysis - Environmental Politics and Management
