| Programme description | The MSc in Mathematics at the Department of Mathematical Sciences is a two years international programme, where the students can choose between 3 specializations: Algebra, Analysis (Functional Analysis, and Complex and Harmonic Analysis), and Topology. The MSc programme consists of course work of 82.5 credits, and a master's thesis of 37.5 credits. All students should take at least 30 credits among the courses: Rings and Modules, Galois Theory, Linear Methods, Foundations of Analysis, Manifolds, and Analysis of Manifolds. ; Students who choose to specialize in Algebra, should take the courses: Ring Theory and Homological Algebra. Relevant topics for thesis work within Algebra: Representation Theory of Finite Dimensional Algebra, Lie-Algebra, Homological Algebra, and Higher Dimensional Rings and Orders. ; Students who chose to specialize in Analysis, should take the courses: Functional Analysis, and Complex Analysis. Relevant topics for thesis work within Analysis: Geometric Function Theory, Function Spaces, Harmonic Analysis, Continued Fractions, Dynamics Systems, Operator Theory, Topological Measure Theory, and Partial Differential Equations.; Students who chose to specialize in Topology, should take the course: Algebraic Topology, and at least one more course within Topology. Relevant topics for thesis work within Topology: Homotopology Theory, K-Theory, Generalized Cohomology Theories, Category Theory, Non-linear Dynamics, Lie-Groups, and Differential Geometry. ; Students might also be required to follow relevant seminars for the master's thesis. |
