Programme duration 1 1/2 years
Programme description During the last 50 years, public international law has gone through a double change of perspective. Starting off with a focus mainly on inter-state relations, we have witnessed that public international law increasingly focuses on rights and duties of individuals. Secondly, public international law has taken into account the effects of globalization and the necessity of protecting general and common international interests. The master programme wants to reflect this broader perspective by combining a course on classical public international law with a range of elective courses that illustrate the changing nature of public international law. The courses offer a context-based approach which highlights linkages between the national, regional, and international levels. Students must write a thesis towards the end of the course. The topic needs not be related to any of the courses, but must be on a subject related to public international law. The courses are held by lecturers working at the Department of Public and International Law and at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights.
