Programme description Education and research in Systems and Control Engineering is given high priority at Telemark University College (TUC).There are strong links to the local process industry which is part of the largest industrial cluster in Norway, as well as to regional and national industry. The local industry includes production of cement, polymers, fertilisers, and different industrial gases, as well as systems industry. In addition to the research activity at TUC, strong industrial research centres are also located in the region. In Norway, offshore activity is of high importance, with an advanced oil and gas industry. The educational and research programmes at TUC focus on onshore as well as offshore activities, and the programmes are at a high international level. The research networks involve a large number of universities and industrial companies. ; The M.Sc. programme in Systems and Control Engineering is industrially oriented, with emphasis on applied science and close cooperation with local and regional industrial companies. The main strategic field of technological research at TUC is Gas and Energy Systems, and this M.Sc. programme emphasizes key components of systems and control engineering within this field of research. Key topics in this study programme include, Sensor technology, Industrial IT, Data Analysis, Experimental planning, Mechanistic and empiric (e.g. system identification) prediction models , Model simulation, Model based estimators and soft sensors, Model based control and monitoring. Modern computer tools are used to illustrate theory. Projects and theses include applications in areas such as oil and gas industry, process industry, motion control, systems biology, and systems industry. The programme includes an individual thesis to be carried out during the final (fourth semester) of study. Courses emphasize student participation, with exercises, group work and project work, and offers the introduction to advanced computer based tools as well as practical laboratory work.
