Mathematics, Master's Programme

Do you want to gain knowledge and skills in mathematics? Then this programme is for you.

The master’s degree programme in mathematics has two specializations: one in mathematics education and the other in pure mathematics. Mathematics education covers issues related to the teaching of mathematics and prepares students to become mathematics teachers; pure mathematics delves deeper into advanced concepts and methods. Both specializations qualify students for lectureships after completing practical pedagogical education (PPU), as well as for PhD studies.

The University of Agder has a strong team of experts in mathematics and mathematics education, and in 2013 was awarded the status of National Centre of Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (MatRIC) from the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, NOKUT.

What do you learn?

The study gives you advanced knowledge of key issues and methods within mathematics and/or mathematics education. You learn to apply theoretical and practical knowledge in mathematics and gain in-depth knowledge in research on mathematics and/or mathematics education.
