Music Performance - Western Classical Music

Do you want to develop further as a musician? At the master's programme in music performance you work diligently to further develop your technical skills at an advanced and professional level. You advance your skills as an instrumentalist, develop a personal expression, and gain specialized knowledge about your instrument. The program also has a theoretical component where you acquire knowledge about the field of music, and learn to relate this theoretical knowledge to practical performance of music. The knowledge and skills you learn in the course, gives you a solid foundation to engage in musical innovation and communicate about and through music.

Formal prerequisites

The prerequisite for admission to the MA program is a completed BA degree in music performance, or equivalent degree which contains a minimum of 90 ECTS in music performance.

Students also need to pass an entrance exam. Foreign students have to prove adequate proficiency in English (normally TOEFL or IELTS test). Written proposal to the subject of the master thesis has to accompany the application.

  • Non EU/EEA international applicants: From 1 November till 1 December (both for performance and theoretical specializations).
  • EU/EEA applicants: From 1 November till 1 December (performance specializations) or 1 February till 1 March (theoretical specializations).
  • Nordic citizens and applicants with a permanent or renewable residence permit in Norway: From 1 November till 1 December (performance specializations) or 1 February till 1 March (theoretical specializations).
