Formal prerequisites

There are different prerequisites for admission to the MA program in Popular Music depending on the different specializations: The prerequisite to Music Performance and World Music is a completed BA degree in Music Performance, or equivalent degree which contains a minimum of 80 ECTS in Music Performance. In Electronic Music the prerequisite are the same, but also BA in Music Technology can be accepted. In Music Management the prerequisite for the admission to the MA is a completed BA degree in Music Performance, or equivalent degree which contains a minimum of 80 ECTS in Music Performance, a BA in Business Administration, or another relevant BA within the field of Culture/Music/Arts studies (Ask the faculty for further information). The prerequisite for admission to the MA program in Popular Music Studies is a completed BA degree in music performance or equivalent degree which contains a minimum of 80 ECTS in Music Performance or a BA in Musicology.

Applicants to Music Performance, World Music and Electronic Music also need to pass an entrance exam. Foreign students have to prove adequate proficiency in English (normally TOEFL or IELTS test). Written proposal to the subject of the master thesis has to accompany the application.

  • Non EU/EEA international applicants: From 1 November till 1 December (both for performance and theoretical specializations).
  • EU/EEA applicants: From 1 November till 1 December (performance specializations) or 1 February till 1 March (theoretical specializations).
  • Nordic citizens and applicants with a permanent or renewable residence permit in Norway: From 1 November till 1 December (performance specializations) or 1 February till 1 March (theoretical specializations).
