Risk Analysis Master's Programme

Become a highly qualified risk expert, with strong competence in risk science, risk assessment, risk perception, risk communication, risk management, risk governance and policy.

There is an increasing focus on risk, safety and security issues in society today, and the challenges are many. However, current Risk Analysis and governance practice suffer from severe weaknesses and there is an urgent need for improvements. New ideas and perspectives on Risk analysis and governance are required. The study programme highlights such ideas and perspectives and aims at contributing to strengthen the scientific basis for the risk field and science, including relevant safety and security issues. A Master of Risk Analysis from the University of Stavanger will give you advanced knowledge in the fundamentals of risk analysis; attractive competencies either you are looking for future work as a risk scientist, or a risk practitioner or manager.

The programme opens up for positions in both private and the public sector.

The programme has two specialisations:

  • Engineering Risk Analysis and Management
  • Risk Analysis and Governance
Application deadline Non-EU applicants: December 10 - January 10
EU applicants: February 1 - March 1
Applicants with a Bachelor's degree from Nordic countries: February 1 - April 15
Entry requirements

For specialisation in Engineering Risk Analysis and Management:A bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent. Applicants must have at least 30 ECTS credits in mathematics/statistics/calculus.

For specialisation in Risk Analysis and Governance:A bachelor's degree in social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, mathematics or statistics. Applicants with other types of educational background may also be considered for admission. Other study programmes that may meet the requirements for admission include:

  • Teacher training
  • Journalism
  • History and philosophy of science
