Risk Analysis Master's Programme

Become a highly qualified risk expert, with strong competence in risk science, risk assessment, risk perception, risk communication, risk management, risk governance and policy.

There is an increasing focus on risk, safety and security issues in society today, and the challenges are many. However, current Risk Analysis and governance practice suffer from severe weaknesses and there is an urgent need for improvements. New ideas and perspectives on Risk analysis and governance are required. The study programme highlights such ideas and perspectives and aims at contributing to strengthen the scientific basis for the risk field and science, including relevant safety and security issues. A Master of Risk Analysis from the University of Stavanger will give you advanced knowledge in the fundamentals of risk analysis; attractive competencies either you are looking for future work as a risk scientist, or a risk practitioner or manager.

The programme opens up for positions in both private and the public sector.

Formal prerequisites

Admission requirements for the specialisation in Risk Analysis and Governance:

A minimum 3-year bachelor's degree or a similar type of degree of at least 3 years duration (180 ECTS). Degrees that qualify for admission include degrees in social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, mathematics or statistics. Applicants with other types of educational background will be considered by the admission committee. Other study programmes that may meet the requirements for admission include:

- Health and social sciences

- Business and administration

- Hotel and tourism

- Police education

- Teacher training

- Journalism

- History and philosophy of science

Admission requirements for the specialisation in Engineering Risk Analysis and Management:

The admission requirement to enroll for the programme is a bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar.

All applicants must have at least 30 ECTS credits in mathematics/statistics/calculus.Proficiency in English on an advanced level is required and must be documented. For more information, please visit the programme's website.
