Multimedia and Game Technologies, Master's Programme
Applicants from outside the EU/EEA are now able to apply for admission to the 2026–2027 academic year. The application period is from 1 November to 1 December 2025.
Do you have a bachelor’s degree in multimedia, academic e-sports, or a related field, and wish to further develop your skills in using various digital tools, e-learning solutions, and new technologies? Do you also want to broaden your perspective and explore how games and game technology can help address many of the societal challenges we face in the future? Then the master’s program in multimedia and game technologies might be the right choice for you.
The world around us is constantly changing, with the greatest shifts occurring in the accessibility and use of technology. Digital technology is transforming the way we work and the tools we use. Additionally, education, work, and personal interests are increasingly intertwined through emerging solutions. Mastering and understanding these technologies—and, importantly, being able to further develop and apply them—will become ever more critical in the future. Both in private and public sectors, the demand for such expertise will continue to grow. In recent years, game technology has played a central role, not only as an entertainment medium but also as a contributor to developing what we call transferable skills.
The master’s program in multimedia and game technologies is one of the first of its kind, incorporating diverse teaching and assessment methods along with a high level of student engagement and involvement. The University of Agder (UiA) is well-equipped with specialized classrooms for teaching in this field. The rooms also include an e-sports lab, multimedia lab and an arcade room which are also used for teaching, research, and recreational use.
What do you learn?
The teaching will reflect the wide range of branches you can work in after graduation, ranging from the development of e-learning materials for traditional school and university education, training of employees in offshore firms and other specialist firms, and as an employee in companies using e-learning and educational technologies. The programme focuses on educational technology, and all topics are helping to underpin the knowledge necessary to develop good e-learning modules and topics.
